DJ Chuck Johnson is one of the few DJs on Walt Disney World’s official Disney Fairy Tale Weddings approved vendor list. That list is selective, it does not change often, and it exists to protect couples planning Disney weddings from working with vendors who do not know the venues, the requirements, or the experience those venues demand. This guide answers the questions couples ask most often about booking a DJ for a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding. This is from Chuck’s perspective as an independent approved vendor with years of experience performing at Disney’s most iconic wedding venues.
This page does not officially represent Disney or Disney Fairy Tale Weddings, I do not speak for the company. I can, however, give you an approved vendor’s experience, perspective, and advice for couples navigating the process.
What Is a Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Approved DJ?
Disney Fairy Tale Weddings maintains an official list of approved vendors that include photographers, florists, DJs, and other wedding professionals. They are permitted to perform at Disney’s private event spaces on Walt Disney World property. To be on that list, a vendor has to meet Disney’s standards for professionalism, experience, insurance, and familiarity with the venues and operational requirements. The list for DJs is small and it does not turn over frequently.
Can I Use a Non-Disney DJ for a Disney Fairy Tale Wedding?
Yes, with conditions. Disney does allow outside DJs (vendors not on the approved list) to perform at resort ballroom locations. However, bringing in an outside DJ triggers an outside vendor fee that covers the associated costs Disney provides: dance floor, lighting, staging, electrical setup, and related services. That fee is significant, and here is the part most couples do not realize until they run the numbers: any money paid to an outside DJ does not count toward Disney’s required minimum wedding spend. When you factor in the outside vendor fee plus the cost of hiring the outside DJ separately, the total for most couples ends up exceeding what it would have cost to simply work with a Disney-approved DJ in the first place.
There are also two hard restrictions that apply regardless of cost. Outside DJs must carry at least two million dollars in liability insurance and must comply fully with Disney’s operational regulations. And outside DJs cannot perform at park locations. For example: EPCOT venues, the Atlantic Dance Hall, and other spaces inside Disney’s parks are restricted to approved vendors only. If your venue is a resort ballroom, an outside DJ is technically an option. If your venue is inside a park, it is not.
Can I Choose My Own DJ from the Disney Approved List?
Yes, and you should! Disney does not automatically assign you a DJ. You are free to research and select your own from the approved vendor list, exactly the way you would choose any wedding professional. If you do not make a selection, Disney will assign an approved DJ based on what they believe is the best fit for your event, typically about a month before your wedding date.
In my experience, it is almost always better for couples to make their own choice rather than leave that decision to Disney. You know your taste in music, your energy, and what kind of night you want. Choosing your own DJ produces a much better result than meeting your DJ for the first time a month out.
How Do I Book a DJ for My Disney Fairy Tale Wedding?
The process is different from booking a wedding vendor at a standard venue, and it is important to understand that difference early. Couples research approved Disney DJs on their own. Through websites, social media, reviews, and word of mouth (the same way you would research any vendor). Once you have identified the DJ you want, you do not book them directly. Instead, you request through Disney that your chosen DJ be confirmed for your event. From that point, all contracts and payments are handled through Disney, not through the DJ. The DJ you chose is your DJ but the business relationship runs through Disney’s process.
What this means practically is that the DJ you research and fall in love with on Instagram or through a friend’s recommendation needs to be on the approved list for any of this to work. It also means that the earlier you identify your DJ preference and communicate it to Disney, the better. Disney Fairy Tale Weddings dates fill well in advance, and approved vendors’ availability follows that same curve. Getting your DJ selection to Disney early is one of the most important things you can do in the planning process.
What Disney Venues Can I Have My Wedding At?
Walt Disney World offers a range of private event spaces through the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings program. Chuck has performed at all of them, including the Grand Floridian Resort, Contemporary Resort and California Grill, Yacht Club and Beach Club, BoardWalk Resort, Atlantic Dance Hall, EPCOT venues (including the Living Seas and the American Adventure), and many more. Each venue has its own character, its own acoustic profile, and its own logistical considerations.
The Four Seasons Resort, Swan Reserve, Hotel Plaza Resorts, and Shades of Green, the military-exclusive resort on Disney property, operates independently of the Disney Fairy Tale Weddings program and has its own vendor flexibility.
What Makes Performing at Disney Different?
Every Disney venue has specific requirements that go beyond what most wedding venues ask of their vendors. Equipment must meet Disney’s standards. Setup and breakdown must work within Disney’s operational windows. Coordination with Disney’s event staff is required in advance, not just on the day of the wedding. The venues themselves, particularly the Grand Floridian ballrooms, the California Grill, and the EPCOT pavilions, have acoustic profiles that reward preparation. Experience in these specific rooms matters more than almost anywhere else.
How Far in Advance Should I Book My Disney Wedding DJ?
As early as you possibly can! Ideally within the first few weeks of beginning your planning process, and well before your wedding date is a year out. Disney Fairy Tale Weddings dates at the most popular venues book far in advance. Approved vendor availability mirrors that timeline. Waiting until six months before your date to think about your DJ is a real risk at Disney venues. The couples who get their first choice of everything: venue, date, photographer, DJ, are almost always the ones who started early.
Does My Disney Wedding Have to Have Disney Music?
No! Some couples go all in on Disney music and build their entire reception around it. A first dance to A Whole New World or Beauty and the Beast in the Grand Floridian ballroom is a genuinely magical moment, and plenty of couples choose exactly that. Other couples want nothing Disney in the playlist at all. They happen to love the venue, but their musical identity has nothing to do with Disney, and that is completely valid too. A wedding at Disney does not have to sound like Disney.
Both approaches work. What makes either one work well is having a DJ who understands the difference and can guide you toward a music experience that actually fits who you are as a couple. I have this conversation with every couple I work with at Disney venues. Not “what Disney songs do you want” but “what do you want your guests to feel?” The venue takes care of the magic. The music takes care of everything else.
DJ Chuck Johnson and Disney Fairy Tale Weddings
Chuck Johnson has been on the Walt Disney World approved vendor list for years and has performed at Disney’s flagship wedding venues more times than he can count. He has DJ’d receptions at the Grand Floridian, Contemporary and BoardWalk, and performed at EPCOT and other theme park venues that most wedding DJs will never see. He was also featured on Disney’s own Fairy Tale Weddings TV series on Disney+.
His approach at Disney venues is the same as his approach everywhere: your vision leads, and his experience with the specific locations supports it. The difference at Disney is that the experience matters more. He has already solved the problems other DJs encounter for the first time on your wedding day.
Two Disney Approved DJs. Two Different Feels.
DJ Chuck Johnson has been performing at Disney venues for over 15 years. More than 2,000 weddings. Grand Floridian, Contemporary Resort, California Grill, BoardWalk, Atlantic Dance Hall, EPCOT, and more… he has worked every major Disney venue and knows each one from the inside. His approach is measured, polished, and focused entirely on the couple. If you want someone with deep venue experience and a calm, steady hand on the most important night of your life, that’s Chuck.
DJ Bayley brings something different. She’s youthful, dynamic, and before she was a wedding DJ she was actually a Disney entertainer, performing on the Disney Cruise Line and at Walt Disney World. She knows how Disney runs its events in a way that goes beyond venue familiarity. Her style is celebratory, social-forward, and full of genuine personality. If you want someone who feels equally at home on a Disney stage and behind the DJ booth at your reception, that’s Bayley.
Same approval. Very different feels.
Both DJs are on Walt Disney World’s official Disney Fairy Tale Weddings approved vendor list. Both coordinate directly with Disney’s planning team. Both bring the professionalism, equipment, and venue experience that Disney expects from its approved vendors.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is DJ Chuck Johnson on the official Disney Fairy Tale Weddings vendor list?
Yes. DJ Chuck Johnson is one of the few DJs on Walt Disney World’s official Disney Fairy Tale Weddings approved vendor list. He is an independent vendor, not a Disney employee.
Do I have to use a Disney-approved DJ for my Disney Fairy Tale Wedding?
For resort ballroom locations, outside DJs are permitted but subject to an outside vendor fee and strict insurance and compliance requirements. For in-park locations (including EPCOT venues and the Atlantic Dance Hall) only Disney-approved DJs are permitted. In either case, working with an approved DJ typically makes more financial sense once you account for the outside vendor fee, and approved DJs bring direct experience with the specific venues that outside vendors simply do not have.
